With Sanction(R) Legal Management software, the depositions can be synchronized with the transcription taken by the court reporter in attendance for the pupose of graphically displaying the text captions under the media file.

This can be a very powerful tool in the courtroom for impeaching/impuning the testimony of an adverse witness.

Here's how it works:

1. The deposition is recorded by the Videographer, typically on a VHS tape.
2. The court reporter assigned to the deposition "synchronizes" the transcript to the time code of the videographer using the CR's laptop computer.
3. The videographer then converts the VHS to an MPEG1 media file e.g a CD-ROM (up to 2 hours of testimony) which can be viewed on any computer i.e laptop in Microsoft Windows Media Player.
4. Using Sanction (R) (Legal Management/Presentation Software) the transcript is then synchronized with the media file as shown below. This enables the playing of the file with synchronized subtitles legibly displayed directly below the media window.
5. The computer utilized in the courtroom can be connected to a large monitor or a video projector for viewing by the jury/judge
